About

My Story

Hey y’all, I’m Katie Toombs! I was born in Beaufort, South Carolina and moved to the Memphis area when I was very young. I’m now settled just outside of the charming town of Collierville, Tennessee with my supportive husband, four big kids, and two dogs. Growing up in the South has deeply influenced my work, where I specialize in impressionistic paintings rendered in a richly layered impasto style. My palette stays calm- soft blues, greens, and gentle earth tones that reflect the quiet beauty of home. I love to capture the essence of everyday life with a soothing palette that whispers of tranquility and warmth.

What draws people to my art is its heartfelt reflection of relatable human experiences- family, routine, and small moments of peace. The layers invite closer looks, revealing details the way daily life does. Rooted in my Southern upbringing and busy household, the paintings feel familiar- offering comfort and a sense of shared experience. It is my hope that you will find a peaceful escape from a hectic world through my art.

Much love, Katie

FAQs

Q: How long have you been painting?

A: I started painting when I was pregnant with my 3rd child in 2009. I had taken art in high school but never learned to paint… so I taught myself! It has been a journey of self discovery for sure!

Q: What inspires you?

A: If you look closely at the things around you, you can see inspiration everywhere! Stop and smell the roses. You just might be inspired to paint them!

Q: Where does your creativity come from?

A: I’ve had the desire to play, draw and use my imagination from an early age. My grandmother's cousin was Pup McCarty (of McCarty’s Pottery) so I love to think that the desire to create flows through my veins! I think pottery is going to be my next hobby!
